In this business I have meet a lot of happy, in love couples. Sometimes I meet a couple that is even beyond that, a couple the is so right for each other, I can’t use words to describe how perfect they are for each other and the special bond they share… good thing I am a photographer! One of these couples is Leigh and Matt. They got married on July 11th in the wonderful little town of Safety Harbor, Florida (just outside of Tampa) at The Safety Harbor Resort and Spa. I went down a little early and spent most of the weekend with them, doing a, later than normal, engagement session, covering the rehearsal and then shooting the wedding! After it was over I am sure they felt I was stalking them… although I guess I kind of was for the weekend! And what a lovely weekend it was! Everything was planned out perfectly and went beautifully. It was a wonderful weekend and I had a great time! Congratulations to Leigh and Matt and thanks again for letting me be part of your special day!

    French Polynesia: Bora Bora

After Moorea, we island hopped over to Bora Bora and just like Moorea, saying it was beautiful was an understatement. To be honest, I am not exactly sure my photos even show the real beauty of these islands. The mountain that is in just about all of these photos is called Otemanu, and can be seen from just about anywhere in Bora Bora, including from our over water bungalow! If you want to see more or buy a print, check out the gallery.

    French Polynesia: Moorea

Jul 01 | Evan | Comments Off on French Polynesia: Moorea |

For our honeymoon we went to a couple islands in the French Polynesia. First we stopped in Moorea, which is about a 10 minute flight from Tahiti. Moorea is just too beautiful. Taking photos there is so easy, but choosing your favorite ones is ridiculously hard! All things considered though, that isn’t so bad! I wish I had more time to explore the island and shoot at different places, but after all, I was on my honeymoon! Anyway, here are just a few of my favorites and if you want to see more or buy a print, check out the gallery. Photos from Bora Bora will be coming soon!

    My Wedding

Jul 01 | Evan | Comments Off on My Wedding |

On May 16th, 2009, Satomi and I got married in Raleigh, NC at Temple Beth Or and had our reception at The Raleigh Renaissance Hotel at North Hills. Again I want to thank everyone that made it possible and helped out. We had a great time and think all of the guests did as well! I am a good photographer, but not good enough to shoot my own wedding and be part of it at the same time! So, all the photos on this post are by Patrica Suzanne. Thanks Patty!

    Getting Married!

May 16 | Evan | Comments Off on Getting Married! |

I am getting married today and then after that will be traveling with Satomi’s family to Miami. After Satomi’s family returns to Japan, we will head to the beautiful islands of Moorea and Bora Bora of Tahiti for our honeymoon! So I am going to be away for a few weeks, but before going, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who helped make this day happen. Most importantly, I want to thank my parents and family, Satomi’s family and all of our friends for all of the love, support and guidance over the years!  Also a special thank you to our Rabbi at Temple Beth Or, Lucy Dinner.  Next, I wanted to thank all the wonderful vendors that helped make our day spectacular and unforgettable! In no particular order, thank you to:

Thanks again to everyone! photos to come after we come back, so stay tuned!

    Kimmie and Cherry Blossoms

May 14 | Evan | Comments Off on Kimmie and Cherry Blossoms |

Another beautiful day in Washington DC with another beautiful model for me to shoot. On my last day in DC I had the pleasure of meeting and working with Kimmie. After walking for what seemed like forever, we finally found a place that was not overrun by locals and tourists (like me) trying to catch a glimpse and enjoy the beautiful cherry blossoms that bloom once a year. I didn’t have as much time with Kimmie as I did with my other shoots, but it went really well and we had a blast! Like with Yen and Tom and Kelly, many thanks to Adam Peele, who graciously provided one of his awesome Limited Edition Handscreened Art T’s for this shoot (the green one).

    Courtney and Travis Wedding Photography

May 09 | Evan | Comments Off on Courtney and Travis Wedding Photography |

Last weekend, I went down to Clayton, Georgia to shoot a wedding with Andrew Bryant Photography. The day started out rainy (maybe a slight understatement), but as the day went on, the weather cleared up and the day–and the wedding–ended up just beautifully. Courtney and Travis were such a lovely couple and somehow with everything going on, even found time on their special day to congratulate me on my upcoming wedding! Thank you to Andrew Bryant Photography and again congratulations and thank you to Courtney and Travis for a wonderful day at Waterfall at Lake Burton Country Club.

    My Wedding in Japan

So… This past weekend, I was shooting a wedding in Georgia with Andrew Bryant Photography, and suddenly realized, my wedding here in the states is (at that time) in 2 week–As I write this post it is less! Naturally, thinking about our wedding here in Raleigh, North Carolina, making arrangements and her family coming over here, has made me think about our time (and wedding) in Japan. Then I realized, I never posted anything about it, so here you are! Since we always knew that we were going to do one in Japan and one in the USA, we decided to keep the one in Japan as simple (and affordable) as possible. We didn’t have a religious ceremony at all, but instead had what was basically a lunch reception. Now what you have to understand, in Japan, there is always an after party and usually an after after party (each time the group gets smaller). So after the reception, we went to another party/reception with a few of the same people but while the first party was mainly for families and parent’s friends and coworkers, the second party was mainly for our friends. After that, there was an after after party and then even an after after after party that Satomi and I didn’t even attend but her friends still wanted to celebrate, party and drink more! After a full 12 hours of celebrating, partying and running around Tokyo, we were exhausted. Whew. I am getting tired again just thinking about that day! In any case, here are some photos from before and during the lunch reception at the Grand Prince Hotel Akasaka. Photographs were taken by my good friend Greg Logan.

Kelly (and Andrew) and Cherry Blossoms

Another shoot I had the pleasure of doing in Washington DC was with Kelly. Shooting with Kelly was a blast as she was up for just about anything, including climbing a cherry blossom tree…in boots with high heels! I doubt I could have climbed the tree we picked with climbing gear (am I the only one who never learned how to climb trees?), let alone in what she was wearing! At the very end of our shoot together, Andrew also joined us for about 20 minutes or so. I wish I had more time with them together, but it was great shooting with Kelly alone and as a couple once Andrew stopped by. Like with Yen and Tom, I have to give a quick shout out and many thanks to Adam Peele, who was gracious enough to provide some of his awesome Limited Edition Handscreened Art T’s for this and a few other shoots (the brown top with the cherry blossoms).

So I mentioned I had some good news…

    Apr 14 | Evan | Comments Off on So I mentioned I had some good news… |

I am elated to announce I have joined Andrew Bryant Photography as an associate photographer! Andrew is an incredible photographer and while he is based here in Cary, he is nationally known and is available for weddings all over the world. Some of you knew this because I couldn’t hold in the excitement and let it slip already, but now it is official! And to think that I might not have ever met him!

Here’s the story. While Satomi and I were looking for our own wedding vendors, after a day of looking around, we decided to go to “one more place.” That place turned out to be Paperwhites Press. The wonderful people at Paperwhites Press (who ended up doing our beautiful invitations–which are currently the opening image on their homepage), suggested that I get in touch with Andrew Bryant Photography since I had not found a photographer yet. Andrew and I hit it off immediately and I was overwhelmed with his kindness and support of my new photography company that I had started after returning from teaching English in Japan in September of 2008.

After our first meeting, I told Satomi that I wanted to somehow work with Andrew, but at the time I was thinking small, like second shooting for him from time to time. When he asked me to be an associate I was so honored and surprised that I was speechless and later worried that maybe he thought I didn’t say much because I was trying to play it cool! To be honest, I am still not exactly sure how I convinced Andrew Bryant Photography to bring me on as an associate, but I am thrilled, thankful and feel so blessed that I have received this wonderful opportunity to show and improve my photographic talent! Thank you Andrew!

    Yen and Tom

So I have been missing for a while! Sorry about that, but I promise there are some good reasons! Besides moving, preparing for my own wedding, traveling, and running my own photography business, I have a couple other great things going on…. which you will have to wait for another post for!

    20090404-_7EP4051sc.jpg

Actually, one of those other great things was a very short trip to Washington DC during the peak of cherry blossom season! It was so beautiful and made me wish I was still in Japan. That being said, I was so happy to be in DC because I could see family, old friends and even make some new friends. Two of which are Yen and Tom. A lovely couple that I spent a few hours with on a beautiful, but incredibly windy and crowded, day. They are such a loving and adorable couple which made capturing the magic between them so fun and rewarding! Also, I have to give a quick shout out and many thanks to Adam Peele, who was gracious enough to provide some of his awesome Limited Edition Handscreened Art T’s for this and a few other shoots (the red and brown shirts).

New England Revolution vs Carolina Railhawks

What started out as a cold, rainy, dismal day, turned out to be a beautiful day to be celebrated! Not only did the Carolina Railhawks defeat the MLS New England Revolution 1-0, but Carolina’s defender, Caleb Norkus, proposed to his girlfriend, Danielle Fernandez, just after Danielle sang the national anthem. By the photos below, you can probably guess what her answer was! Congratulations to both the Railhawks and to Caleb and Danielle!

Get Your Rear in Gear Raleigh, NC

Mar 14 | Evan | Comments Off on Get Your Rear in Gear Raleigh, NC |

March 7th, 2009 was the inaugural Get Your Rear in Gear 5k at Fred Fletcher Park, in Raleigh, North Carolina and I was the official photographer for the race that was raising awareness of colon and rectal cancer and positively impact screening rates. When I was in high school, I use to run track and cross country (although Satomi cannot believe I used to be able to run a 4:38 mile…actually, neither can I come to think of it) but this was my first time photographing a race. Overall it went well, but since I tried to take a few photos of every participant (over 600 of them) I easily ended up with over 3000 photographs in just over an hour! If you were a participant, or just want to see a lot of race photos, the photos from the Get Your Rear in Gear 5k are all over in my gallery.

Gavin’s 5th Birthday Party and Portraits

Mar 10 | Evan | Comments Off on Gavin’s 5th Birthday Party and Portraits |

    Array

A few weeks ago, I shot a birthday party at Goodnights Comedy Club…. for a 5 year old! Yeah, I was surprised as well, at least until I heard that it was going to be during the day and instead of a 4 letter word dropping, crowd attacking comedian, there would be a crowd pleasing magician. It was a lot of fun for me to photograph so I know the kids really enjoyed it! After the party, I did some portraits of the lucky birthday boy and his cousins. Photographing kids is as fun as it is challenging! They don’t really take directions well, but to be honest, those times when they are off in their own world, can often be the best ones! Happy Birthday Gavin!
